TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Ambon municipal court sentenced a 26 year-old ferry crew member in Maluku Province to eight years in prison for raping an eleven-year-old girl and fined the ferry crew Rp 70 million.
Judge Agustinus Silalahi punished Hezron Salhuteru for the crime that occurred last October. It was a lighter sentence than the 14 years sought by prosecutors.
The victim who was a vender wandering from boat to boat selling various merchandise was raped on a boat docking at Ambon Port. Hezron lured the fifth grader with a job to clean the boat and then gave her Rp 10,000 (less then US$ 1) after raping her.
